Fancy having a go at silversmithing and trying something new? This is the course for you. Starting with the basics you'll soon develop a taste for working in metal. With a full week of sessions you'll be guided through various techniques and also be allowed plenty of time to practice what you're learning to really get the hang of things. Who is it for? Beginners onwards. Please note that a good level of dexterity and eyesight is required. Over 16s with accompanying adult. What will I learn? We'll work on various projects to allow you to learn the following skills: Saw piercing, drilling and filing Annealing, soldering and heat treating techniques Using a rolling mill to texture metal, roll wire and sheet Polishing methods Jump ring, chain and clasp making Doming and anticlastic raising Riveting Making and sizing a ring band Forming a bezel setting for a cabochon stone What's included All the equipment and materials you need are provided. We'll start working in copper for 2 of our practice pieces then move through to working in silver for our final 2 projects including a pair of roll printed earrings and a beautiful sterling silver bezel set ring. Tea / Coffee and biscuits provided. We break for an hour for lunch between 12.30 and 1.30 each day. What shall I bring? Reading glasses if you use them and if you have magnifying glasses please bring these also. Closed toed shoes are advisable and please tie long hair back and avoid loose flappy clothes.
