Spend a day in the studio making beautiful silver jewellery in one of the most accessible and endlessly creative mediums there is — silver clay. No prior experience needed, and no two pieces ever look the same. Silver clay is exactly what it sounds like: a clay-like material you can shape, texture, stamp and sculpt just as you would with any other clay. The magic happens when you fire it with a torch — it transforms into solid fine silver, 99.9% pure and even eligible for hallmarking. The gap between what a beginner can make and what looks genuinely impressive is surprisingly small. With a full day to work in, you'll have plenty of time to make a range of pieces — pendants, charms, earrings, or something wearable and personal — and finish them to a standard you'll be proud to give as gifts or keep for yourself. Who is this workshop for? Open to complete beginners and anyone curious about working with silver in a different way. If you've tried silversmithing before and want to explore a completely different process, silver clay is a wonderful contrast. A good level of dexterity and close-up vision is helpful. Open to participants aged 16 and over; under-18s are welcome with an accompanying adult. What will you learn? Silver clay rewards creativity, and the techniques you'll cover give you real range: - Rolling clay to consistent, even thicknesses - Shaping, cutting and texturing by hand - Stamping and hand engraving - Building up layers to add depth and dimension - Setting stones within the clay before firing - Sanding and refining your pieces - Torch firing — watching your clay become solid silver - Polishing and finishing, including a range of surface effects - Adding clasps and findings to complete your jewellery By the end of the day you'll understand the full process from raw clay to finished, wearable silver. Everything is provided in our fully equipped studio in the heart of beautiful Alcester: - All tools and equipment - 7g of silver clay - Cubic Zirconia stones - Findings to finish your jewellery - Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day - We break for lunch between 12.30 and 1.30pm What should I bring? - Reading glasses if you use them, and magnifying goggles if you have any - Closed-toe shoes (essential in a workshop environment) - Long hair tied back, and avoid loose or flowing sleeves - Ideas for pieces you'd like to make, if you have them — though plenty of inspiration will be on hand
