The wave ring is one of our most loved workshops — a full day spent mastering a forming technique that looks extraordinary and is incredibly satisfying to make. You'll start the day working in copper, which gives you the freedom to experiment, explore and get the forming just right without the pressure of working straight into silver. Once you've found your rhythm and refined your design, you'll move into sterling silver — shaping and forming your ring using pliers, handmade jigs and dies before finishing with a gemstone set in a tube setting of your choice. The result is a ring with real presence: fluid, organic, and completely your own. Who is this workshop for? Open to complete beginners and anyone in the early stages of their silversmithing journey. No prior experience is needed — the copper warm-up means you'll feel confident before you pick up the silver. A good level of dexterity and close-up vision is helpful. Open to participants aged 16 and over; under-18s are welcome with an accompanying adult. What will you learn? This is a full day of hands-on silversmithing covering a range of core techniques: Shaping and forming using pliers, jigs and dies Annealing — keeping your silver workable throughout the process Saw piercing and filing Soldering your design together cleanly Stone setting — tube settings available in sterling silver or gold fill Sanding and polishing to a beautiful finish The copper-to-silver progression is a brilliant way to learn — you'll understand why you're doing each step, not just follow instructions. Everything is provided in our fully equipped studio in the heart of beautiful Alcester: All tools and equipment Copper for practising your design Sterling silver for your finished ring Your choice of gemstone colour and tube setting (sterling silver or gold fill) Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day A lunch break from 12.30–1.30pm (please bring your own lunch — there are lovely spots nearby) What should I bring? Reading glasses if you use them, and magnifying goggles if you have any Closed-toe shoes (essential in a workshop environment) Long hair tied back, and avoid loose or flowing sleeves
